07.27.2005 IDL Tools Announces the ViperGrip - The Next Generation of Pliers
Patented ViperGrip Technology Combines Versatility and Power Unmatched in the Traditional Pliers Category Innovative design applies advanced physics principles VISTA,Calif. (July 27, 2005) — Handling tough jobs just got six times easier. IDL Tools International announces the ViperGrip Switch — Cam-Assisted, Self-Adjusting & Locking Pliers. The ViperGrip’s patented Cam-Assisted technology increases user gripping power by a multiple of six times. Combining this added power with jaws that automatically self-adjust and lock onto different material sizes and shapes boosts the pliers’ performance across a wide range of applications. The ViperGrip is the only pliers with patented Switch Lever capability, which provides users an easy transition from locking to non-locking functionality, improving their ability to work more quickly and effectively. With the simple flip of a switch, the ViperGrip transitions from locking pliers for tough jobs — like removing rusted bolts or clamping materials — to non‑locking pliers for less strenuous jobs — such as detaching already loosened nuts. With these patented innovations, the ViperGrip can tackle the wide range of industrial applications professionals face each day and give do-it-yourselfers extra power while working around the house, on a camping trip, or on the car. Because ViperGrip automatically self-adjusts to lock onto materials, there is no need to manually dial or adjust the opening of the jaws, making those hard-to-reach and “one‑handed” jobs easier to complete.
Distinctly different
“Existing designs for standard and locking pliers are limited in their versatility or their gripping power,” said Bill Driscoll, Vice President, Strategy and Marketing, IDL Tools International. “We brought together innovative thinking with physics principals to create the ViperGrip.”
The ViperGrip’s innovative Cam-Assisted technology, adopted from the physics of leverage, enables users to more easily generate the gripping torque required to complete the toughest jobs, while reducing the gripping pressure required for less strenuous jobs. The increased gripping power helps eliminate slippage, while also reducing hand and arm fatigue.
Problem solved
Traditional locking pliers require manual adjustments to alter the jaw opening. The ViperGrip automatically adjusts and locks on to any size object (up to 1 1/8 inch) without having to manually adjust the width of the jaw opening. Standard adjustable pliers can adjust to the size of the work, but can’t lock. ViperGrip’s combination of automatic self-adjusting, Cam-Assisted jaws and Switch Lever capability eliminates the trial and error associated with manual adjustments, while giving users increased torque in locking or non‑locking mode. This combination of ViperGrip’s versatility and power elevates the users’ effectiveness to new levels.
ViperGrip pricing and availability
The ViperGrip line is available for purchase through traditional hardware retailers, catalogs, and Internet-based retailers. The ViperGrip design can also be found at Sears and Orchard Supply Hardware stores under the Craftsman® GripMaster™ brand or at Lowes under the SeberGrip™ brand for approximately $24.99.
